Quote (taken from #commentz)

Sidenote: after adding the PicPosterous app to my iPod touch & finally taking time to create an album of some screenshots, I didn't realize I posted a few of them over the weekend...oops! So it does post instantly.

And now for today's quote:

“Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.” - Mark Victor Hansen

If you're into public relations & new media and don't have time to search all the daily headlines, I'd recommend you subscribe to the #commentz newsletter, published Monday-Friday by pr consultant Sarah Evans, you'll find valuable information and a nice quote or two :)

Video editing: Storytimes PSA

My latest editing project - a video promoting storytimes for The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. Hours of reviewing really cute footage into iMovie and simple layering & polishing in Adobe Premiere Pro resulting in this 58 second clip. Enjoy!

Snapshot Fun

So with my last post I did a mobile test from my iPod. Now I've figured out how to take snapshots of my screens, like these:

Don't judge me, I like the beat...lol

And this one:

This one is cool because I know these guys. *Shameless plug: follow them on Twitter @ftdubbb and ask about this mixtape!

Song of the Moment: Un-thinkable

After posting my comments about Erykah Badu's latest video it was time to post some new music. I'm a fan of Erykah's music, but I didn't understand the video at first.

Anywho, here's one of my favorite songs of the moment, Un-thinkable by Alicia Keys.

Visual Goodies: Rihanna's Rude Boy music video + behind-the-scenes

I'm a newbie to video editing. I've taken a few classes on the basics, and I've been in trial-and-error mode lately with Adobe Premiere. Thank goodness for tutorials!
When I watch t.v. or the occasional movie, I'm observing transitions, camera angles, graphics, the timing of music, all sorts of elements. Editing has altered the way I watch video.
The title "Visual Goodies" is my way of sharing clips that I find, well, interesting.
Here's Rihanna's latest music video, Rude Boy. This video is so heavy with colors, unique outfits, and graphics, that it's almost too much to watch! Some of the patterns in the video gives me a M.I.A. vibe. See what I mean. I also wondered after watching this for the first time if someone could have a seizure from all the layers of colors flashing. Hmmm.

Bonus! Found some behind-the-scenes footage, too! Loving the timing of the still shots/zoom-ins & zoom-outs in the intro (around 0:34-0:45). I need to practice that. :)

Quote: Friendship

Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.

Mom's Words of Wisdom

I woke up at 3am Monday morning with a migraine, took some p.m. medication and went back to bed hoping that I would wake up on time 4 hours later.

Thanks to my trusty alarm, I did wake up on time with the same migraine unfortunately. I thought about staying home, but realized I had some time-sensitive projects to complete. So I dragged myself into work for a few hours. I talked to my mom before I left and she said this:

You'll have many jobs, but you only get one life.

So after completing those seemingly critical tasks, I went right back home, took another dose of the p.m. medication and slept most of the afternoon.

Lesson learned: I need to take better care of myself.

Happy for #HAPPO (...but what should I say?)

I’ll admit, it’s relatively easy for me to promote others & their efforts. When it comes to promoting myself & tooting my own horn, the task isn’t so effortless. I wouldn’t consider myself a PR pro, more like a pro-in-training or a newbie. So, here's my official bid for Help a PR pro Out day (Happo) (details here: http://helpaprproout.com/?p=189).

I’m looking a pr position that will allow me to nurture my creativity in a challenging & supportive environment. The following is a short list of my background & recent experience:

  • 2004 graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Business (Major: Marketing; Minor: Entrepreneurship/Family Business)
  • I’ve held down a few part-time gigs, including a work-study job with the UC Libraries during my four years of study. (2000-2004). I have a soft spot for non-profits, having working with them in some form for the past ten years.
  • One significant experience that exposed me to the world of public relations was my internship experience at a sports & entertainment pr firm. During my tenure there I learned how to use Bacon’s (now Cision); participated in guerilla marketing (street team) promotions for clients such as Cincinnati Bell, the Marvin Lewis Community Fund, Cincinnati Enquirer, etc.; and I assisted at the media center for the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
  • I recently completed an online course via Media Bistro on public relations basics, including assignments on how to create tactical plans, biographies, pitch letters, and news releases.
  • Currently learning how to use Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I’ve recently edited a intergenerational book discussion series using the software:

I’ve also created a teaser in iMovie to promote the series:
